Creating a family beach vacation is a lot different from planning a typical beach vacation. When children travel with you, it becomes important to find fun activities, pack properly, and to economize. With a bit of forethought and some careful consideration, you can create the perfect beach vacation for your family.
- Rent a vacation home instead of a hotel room. Not only will you find yourself saving money on your lodging, a vacation rental home comes complete with a kitchen and laundry facility – saving you money on food and other expenses. They are often more comfortable and home like as well.
- Contact the local chamber of commerce to see what special events are available. Many of the most popular beach destinations regularly have fairs and concerts – some of which are free. Call the Chamber of Commerce or visit their website to see what events are ongoing during your visit.
- When you pack, be sure to pack some new toys and books. It will help keep the kids entertained and save you money when you don’t have to buy ‘souvenirs’ everyday. Also pack all of your incidentals like bug repellent and aloe vera so you are not paying a big markup at your destination.
- Stick to a schedule – even on vacation. If your children go to bed at a certain time or nap, try to stick to that schedule when possible. While exceptions will occur, by sticking to the plan your kids will be well rested and happier.
